Communication works best when it's direct. When you message without a purpose, you create a "waiting game" that breaks focus and delays the answer you need.
The Scenarios
❌ The Naked Hello
10:00You: Hi!
10:05Me: Hey, what's up?
10:06You: Where is the spec?
✅ The Efficient Intro
10:00You: Hey! Do you have the link to the latest project spec? I'm updating the docs now.
❌ The Contextless Call
14:00You: Hey, quick call?
14:10Me: About what?
14:11You: Just the logo colors.
✅ The Defined Request
14:00You: Hey, do you have 5 mins for a quick call to finalize the logo colors? I'm free until 15:00.
Why this matters:
Context in Notifications: I can see your actual question on my lock screen. If I have the answer, I can give it to you immediately without even opening the app.
Eliminate Anxiety: A "quick call" without a topic is high-anxiety. Giving me a topic lets me prepare so the call actually stays quick.
Asynchronous Flow: By including the "why" in your first message, you allow me to address your request as soon as I'm free, rather than starting a 15-minute greeting ritual.
